Lockheed Martin Canada Partners with Encounters with Canada
More than 100 Students will participate in Science & Technology Week

OTTAWA, CANADA, September 18, 2018 – Lockheed Martin Canada [NYSE: LMT] today announced its partnership for this fall’s Encounters with Canada Science & Technology week. Part of its active role in advancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, this $25,000 contribution to Encounters with Canada will help students discover exciting career paths within the Canadian technology sector.

Each year, Encounters with Canada organizers work with some 5,000 high schools from every province and territory to identify deserving students to attend its Science & Technology Week event in the nation’s capital. Approximately 120 students will participate in the experiential celebration set for November 11-17, 2018.

Among the activities planned are workshops led by Lockheed Martin Canada employees featuring robotics, 3D printing, a flight simulator experience and an introduction to aerodynamics, as well as visits to Lockheed Martin Canada sites. Students are invited to tour the Lockheed Martin Canada IMPACT Centre and manufacturing facility in Ottawa to get a close-up look at development of advanced technologies for naval systems and design engineering. The young, aspiring scientists and engineers also have the opportunity to visit Lockheed Martin’s Commercial Engine Solutions in Montreal to see how military and commercial aircraft engines are maintained.

“Our contribution to Encounters with Canada is really an investment in Lockheed Martin Canada’s own future,” said Gary Fudge, Lockheed Martin Canada, Rotary and Mission Systems general manager and vice president. “To sustain growth in the technology sector, we need to ensure we are taking measures today to build our workforce for tomorrow. We believe one of the best ways to do that is to provide immersive, hands on experience with the career options we offer in aerospace, naval technology and systems engineering.”

“This sponsorship of Science & Technology week shows Lockheed Martin Canada’s commitment to creating an educational pathway to STEM careers,” stated Linda Brunet, director general for Encounters with Canada. “We would like to thank them for their support and hope that this collaboration will help our talented students look to learn new skills and build self-confidence through our science and technology program.”
