U.S. Navy Awards Lockheed Martin $65 Million for the Design, Development and Integration of Electronic Warfare Systems to Upgrade E-2D Aircraft
Lockheed Martin to provide Advanced Digital Receiver/Processor (ADRP) and Active Front End (AFE) Upgrades to Existing E-2D AN/ALQ-217 Systems.

OWEGO, N.Y., November 8, 2018 – Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) received a $65 million contract award from the U.S. Navy for a digital receiver upgrade of the AN/ALQ-217 Electronic Support Measures (ESM) system for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye. Five of the eight Weapon Replaceable Assemblies (WRAs) will be upgraded as part of this contract.  The receiver processor WRA is being upgraded from an analog-based system to a digital receiver utilizing Lockheed Martin’s investment in Advanced Digital Receiver Processor (ADRPTM) technology.

ADRP-based improvements include Combat Identification (CID), networked-EW for multi-ship geo-location with other Carrier Air Wing (CVW) aircraft and detection of advanced threat radar systems.  Additionally, the platform’s active front ends (AFEs) are being upgraded.  These upgrades will provide additional performance in dense littoral and open ocean environments, enhanced situational awareness, full autonomy reducing operator workload, faster reaction time and improved survivability. The Lockheed Martin team will be delivering several upgraded AN/ALQ-217 ESM kits to support development and test through 2022.

“We are pleased to provide an enhanced digital receiver upgrade to the AN/ALQ-217 ESM system for our U.S. Navy customer. This critical digital upgrade for the E-2D Hawkeye will further enhance situational awareness to our warfighters and improve the overall performance in the battlespace,” said Robert Adams, Electronic Warfare director, Rotary and Mission Systems.

Sustaining jobs and a highly skilled workforce, the majority of work will be performed in Owego, New York, with cable manufacturing to be done in Clearwater, Florida, and is expected to be completed in June 2022.

Lockheed Martin has been the AN/ALQ-217 ESM supplier on the E2D Advanced Hawkeye program since 1999. Lockheed Martin has provided electronic warfare capabilities to airborne platforms including AH-64D Apache helicopters, B-2 Bomber, MH-60R multi-mission helicopter, HH-60W Combat Rescue Helicopter, and the Canadian Maritime Helicopter and CP-140 for more than 40 years.
