Interactive learning in a fun and structured environment is how to describe Take Your Child to Work Day (TYCTWD) at Lockheed Martin Management & Data Systems (M&DS). The information technology company views the yearly event as much more than a day for children of its employees to pay mom or dad a visit at work. It views TYCTWD as an opportunity to stimulate interest in science and technology by creatively presenting its technologies to a young crowd.
"This day is a great opportunity for M&DS and the children who attend. There is a lot of thought and effort that goes into this event each year to ensure that it is a fun and valuable learning experience," said M&DS President Stan Sloane.
Lockheed Martin Management & Data Systems limits participants in its TYCTWD program to 250 children between the ages of 9 and 13. Students participate in interactive modules designed to create interest in computer technology, space, and the business world.
In addition to the structured learning modules, Franklin Institute Chief Astronomer Derrick Pitts will provide space education and entertainment during a lunchtime presentation. Pitts has become a fixture at M&DS' TYCTWD events, having been the featured speaker for the last six years.
In addition to Pitts, State Senator Connie Williams will be joining Management & Data Systems TYCTWD with six students from area school districts.
