LUFKIN, Texas, and CHESAPEAKE, Va., June 15, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- The Defense Security Service (DSS) has recognized Lockheed Martin's (NYSE: LMT) Lufkin, Texas, and Chesapeake, Virginia, facilities with the 2016 James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award. The award is one of the most prestigious honors bestowed on industry contractors entrusted with U.S. Department of Defense security clearances.

More than 13,000 defense contractors are eligible for Cogswell Awards but just 42 were selected. Nomination criteria include the establishment and maintenance of a security program that goes well beyond minimum National Industrial Security Program requirements, and demonstration of leadership to other cleared facilities in setting high security standards.

"These awards are a tremendous honor for the security professionals who safeguard Lockheed Martin's people, facilities, intellectual property and information systems," said Lockheed Martin Security Director Mark Lucas. "Our vigilance in protecting our nation's secrets gives our nation's warfighters the advantage on the battlefield."

The 250 employees of Lockheed Martin's Lufkin Operations perform circuit card assembly, wire harness assembly, and final assembly, integration and testing for several missile and launcher programs. The approximately 100 employees at the Chesapeake Integrated Logistics Center perform logistics life-cycle support to the U.S. and foreign Navy undersea warfare systems such as sonar and underwater fire-control systems.

The awards were presented at the 52nd annual National Classification Management Society training seminar on June 8 in Nashville, Tennessee.
