Sikorsky Aircraft, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), received the Exemplary Partner Award from the Professional Advisory Board of the Tagliatela College of Engineering (TCoE) at the University of New Haven on Saturday. The award recognizes the extraordinary support Sikorsky has provided to Tagliatela’s Engineering program during a five-year partnership.
“This is a very important relationship for Sikorsky. The University of New Haven is a key source of design, manufacturing and system engineering talent for us,” said Sikorsky Vice President of Research & Engineering Mark Miller. “The Tagliatela College of Engineering accounts for our largest source of engineering degrees, which helps us to continue to introduce new engineers into the important technology programs that are generating some of the most exciting advances in rotorcraft. Sikorsky Aircraft is proud to be honored for the work we’ve done to foster our relationship with UNH.”
Over the years, Sikorsky has supported the University of New Haven through such efforts as the Sikorsky-sponsored, Team-based Engineering and Manufacturing (TEAM) Summer Camp, housed at the university. The intensive two-week camp introduces high school science, technology, engineering and math students to key stages of engineering product development by allowing them to work hands-on with engineering projects, and on-campus recruiting.
“We appreciate the generous investment in time, money and talent that Sikorsky has provided to help the college achieve its goals and objectives,” said Ronald S. Harichandran, Dean, Tagliatela College of Engineering. “This award recognizes the corporation’s longstanding support.”
Sikorsky’s Mike Ambrose, Vice President, Aircraft Design and Manufacturing Engineering and a former President of the University of New Haven’s Alumni Association and Nick Lappos, Senior Technical Fellow, Advanced Technology, accepted the award, which was presented as part of the 2014 inaugural Hall of Fame Awards, during the TCoE annual Alumni Dinner.
