BETHESDA, Md., Sept. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) has been named to a respected benchmark for sustainability, the 2013 Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index.
The Index represents the top 20 percent of the largest 600 North American companies in the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index based on long-term economic, environmental and social criteria. The underlying research methodology evaluates corporations based on a variety of specific criteria including climate change strategies, energy consumption, human resources development, knowledge management, stakeholder relations and corporate governance.

This Index, part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) family follows a best-in-class approach, including companies across all industries that outperform their peers in numerous sustainability metrics. Launched in 1999, the DJSI were the first indices to track the financial performance of the leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. DJSI performs a yearly review of component selection and continuous monitoring of companies.
Lockheed Martin was also recently named one of the top companies worldwide on the CDP 2013 Global Carbon Performance Leadership Index.
