STRATFORD, Connecticut -
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. will hold its 7th annual Motorcycle Ride and Classic Car Show benefit on Sunday, Sept. 16, at the company’s main facility, 6900 Main St., Stratford. The event kicks off Sikorsky’s annual Community Giving Campaign, which runs through mid-October and last year raised $2.3 million for community programs administered by United Way and Community Health Charities of New England. Sikorsky is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
In past years the Motorcycle Ride and Classic Car Show has attracted hundreds of motorcycles and a wide array of classic and modern cars, trucks and motorcycles that compete for trophies in many categories based on voting by both spectators and judges. The event also includes live music performed by the band Silent Majority. General admission costs $5, and children younger than 12 are admitted for free.
“Sikorsky is proud to sponsor this unique event, which provides a day of great family fun while, longer term, making life a little better for the less fortunate,” said Jeff O’Meara, event chairman and Director of ACE & Lean for Sikorsky. “Poverty, mental and physical illness, unemployment, addictions, school absenteeism and high drop-out rates all remain serious issues in our communities. The greater the turnout on the 16th, the greater the difference we can make together.”
The scenic two-hour Motorcycle Ride will wind through seven area towns and cover 60 miles. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the Sikorsky parking lot, and the ride starts at 9 a.m. The cost to participate is $20 per cyclist and $5 per passenger. Breakfast is included for both cyclists and passengers.
Registration to display a classic car, truck or motorcycle starts at 9 a.m., and the show runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost to enter a vehicle is $20.
