The ATCA Industrial Award recognizes outstanding achievement and contributions in advancing the science of air traffic control. Lockheed Martin has been honored for its support in achieving significant accomplishments on the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) En Route Automation and Modernization (ERAM) program. ERAM, which is replacing a 40-year-old system, is the computer system used to guide airplanes flying at high altitudes.

ERAM provides the foundation for NextGen capabilities, which will increase capacity, improve efficiency, and provide environmental benefits for passengers, the airlines, general aviation and other users of the aviation system. It is now fully operational at the Salt Lake City, Seattle, Denver, Minneapolis and Albuquerque en route centers, covering approximately 1.5 million square miles of airspace.

"We are honored to accept this award and share it with our partners – the FAA, the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) and the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists (PASS)," said Stephanie C. Hill, president of Lockheed Martin's Information Systems & Global Solutions-Civil division. "ERAM is providing tremendous benefits to both air traffic controllers and users of the National Airspace System."

Lockheed Martin has supported the FAA for more than 50 years. The IS&GS-Civil division serves various non-defense U.S. government agencies, international governments and regulated commercial industries. It is responsible for a wide array of information technology systems and services in areas including transportation, health care, energy, information and cyber security, extreme environments, citizen protection and space exploration.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 120,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation's net sales for 2011 were $46.5 billion.
