Background: 

Lockheed Martin is responsible for key elements of the U.S. ballistic missile defense system (BMDS) that are operational today, including Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense; the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 (PAC-3) Missile; and the command and control/battle management and communications (C2BMC) backbone that integrates sensors, command and control and weapon systems elements of the BMDS.
