Lockheed Martin's GyroLink(TM) Selected for U.S. Army's Remote - Vehicle Optics Sensor System Program

ORLANDO, Fla.

ORLANDO, Fla., July 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) was awarded a $21.4 million contract from the U.S. Army for its commercial GyroLink™ system for the Remote - Vehicle Optics Sensor System (R-VOSS) program.

GyroLink provides a real-time full motion video network that transmits video across military vehicles at significant distances. This allows members of a route-clearance patrol to use monitors inside their vehicles to wirelessly view imagery from other VOSS-equipped vehicles. GyroLink meets an urgent operational need for increased situational awareness within route-clearance patrols, helping warfighters see potential dangers sooner and engage time-critical targets faster.

The equipment will be produced at the Lockheed Martin Gyrocam Systems facility in Sarasota, Fla., and will be installed on MRAP vehicles starting in July 2012.

"Fielded as a configurable component of Gyrocam Systems equipment, GyroLink is a plug-in system that deploys with the VOSS on military vehicles," said Jay Pitman, director and general manager in Lockheed Martin's Gyrocam Systems business. "Because GyroLink operates with all previously fielded Gyrocam VOSS units with the U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps and allied partners, it provides a rapid and affordable way to extend situational awareness across the force."

Marketed commercially for news media, private security and law enforcement, GyroLink offers commercial off-the-shelf technology for the R-VOSS program.

A recognized world leader in the design, production and integration of advanced electro-optical/infrared systems, Lockheed Martin has delivered more than 8,500 targeting, navigation and surveillance sensors to the U.S. military and its allies.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs about 120,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation's net sales for 2011 were $46.5 billion.
