At a May 1 event hosted by the USO of Metropolitan New York, Hewson was joined by General Ann E. Dunwoody, the first woman four-star general in the U.S. military, who received the USO's Woman of the Year Award for military women.
The award recognizes women, both civilian and military, who have provided important support for our military. In addition to Hewson and General Dunwoody, the USO honored one female service member from each of the branches of the armed forces with its Military Leadership Award.
"Marillyn is the perfect embodiment of the ideals behind our USO Woman of the Year award," stated Brian Whiting, CEO and president, USO of Metropolitan New York. "In addition to being one of the most influential women in business, she and the more than 123,000 Lockheed Martin employees have a long and outstanding history of partnering with the USO."
"On behalf of my fellow employees at Lockheed Martin, I want to thank the USO for all the ways they lift the lives of our troops and their families," said Hewson. "It is my honor to work for a company whose mission is to support our men and women in uniform, and to partner with organizations like the USO, who make performing that mission less burdensome."
Hewson was recently elected by Lockheed Martin's Board of Directors as the Corporation's next President and Chief Operating Officer, effective January 1, 2013.
