U-TAPAO, Thailand -
Sikorsky Aircraft Corp.’s S-92® “Legacy of Heroes” (LOH) tour honored SEAHAWK Squadron 2 Naval Air Wing of the Royal Thai Navy today with a special recognition award for its long service with the SEAHAWK® helicopter. The LOH helicopter is in country this week as part of its world tour to honor first responders while showing the aircraft’s capability to customers. Sikorsky is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX)
The Squadron was the first international operator of the MH-60S multi role helicopter, and has flown SEAHAWK helicopters for approximately 15 years. Sikorsky helicopters operated by the Royal Thai Navy recently supported the RTN’s efforts during serious flooding, as well as during search and rescue efforts during the devastating tsunami of 2004.
Dan Zsebik, Sikorsky Director of Sales, Asia, accompanied by other Sikorsky representatives and the LOH crew, made the formal presentation to Rear Admiral Pungpol Commander Royal Thai Navy Air Command at the U-Tapao Naval Base.
“At Sikorsky, we value our legacy of saving lives with the helicopter, as it was the single-most important objective of our company founder’s vision. Today, and all along the LOH tour, we are honoring the people who embody that vision and that legacy. To Squadron 2, thank you for your service in the SEAHAWK helicopter. We salute you and wish you continued success in your missions,” Zsebik said.
“Squadron 2 Naval Air Wing conducts missions that require great skill, training, but most of all, courage, and for this, Sikorsky Aircraft and its Legacy of Heroes tour is proud to recognize their longevity of service with the SEAHAWK helicopter,” added Carey Bond, President of Sikorsky Global Helicopters and Chief Marketing Officer.
The LOH tour is in Thailand this week after visiting Singapore for customer demonstration flights and the Singapore Air Show, where it drew thousands of visitors to its static display at the Changi Airport.
The Legacy of Heroes helicopter is a utility-configured S-92 aircraft bearing a unique gray and black paint scheme with a silhouette of first responders depicted on each side. The aircraft is fitted with side-facing seats, a triple-litter kit, Search-and-Rescue Automatic Flight Control System, and night sun capabilities.
The company has created a microsite on the Internet to provide regular updates on the tour’s activities. It can be accessed at www.SikorskyLegacy.com.
