WASHINGTON, Dec. 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Washington Business Hall of Fame inducted Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) Chairman and CEO Bob Stevens at a ceremony last week honoring outstanding leaders and entrepreneurs in the National Capital Area.

"It's an incredible honor to be here with you this evening and receive this recognition that I can only accept on behalf of the 126,000 women and men of Lockheed Martin, who work tirelessly with such professional dedication in support of our customers who are deployed around the world," Stevens said.

The Washington Business Hall of Fame is an annual ceremony recognizing business leaders who, through their work, have made a significant contribution to the quality of life in the National Capital Area. Hall of Fame Laureates are selected by a committee comprised of members of the three founding organizations: The Greater Washington Board of Trade, Junior Achievement of Greater Washington, and The Washingtonian.

This year's event, held Nov. 29 at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C., raised $1.2 million to support Junior Achievement's financial literacy programs for K-12 students in D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

Stevens closed his remarks by asking those in attendance to keep in their thoughts the thousands of men and women from the U.S. serving around the world.

"You're such a giving group of people, that as we approach the holiday season, I'd ask you to please remember that we have many of our fellow citizens, many who wear the uniform of our country stationed far away from home during the holidays," Stevens said. "Some, probably far too many, are in harm's way even as we gather here this evening. So while you are with your families, if you could find a moment to keep them in your thoughts and in your prayers, I know they would appreciate it."

Laureate induction into the Washington Business Hall of Fame is a lifetime achievement award for individuals who have made a major, positive impact on the Greater Washington Region through the private sector economy. Other laureates honored during the Nov. 29 ceremony included Gloria Bohan, president and CEO, Omega World Travel; Alan L. Meltzer, founder and CEO, The Meltzer Group; Joseph E. Robert Jr., founder and chairman, JER Partners; and Warren M. Thompson, founder and president, Thompson Hospitality.
