U.S. SOUTHCOM & Lockheed Martin Team Selected for DoD Information Assurance Award

MIAMI, March 29, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A U.S. Southern Command and Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) team has been selected to receive the 2011 DoD Chief Information Officer Information Assurance Award.  The annual award program recognizes military and civilian personnel and organizations that have made significant contributions towards implementing DoD identity and information assurance objectives.

The team was lauded for their high grades on network systems certification and accreditation reviews for five consecutive years and their guidance and support during the move of Southern Command Headquarters last year.

U.S. Southern Command's area of responsibility includes 31 countries and 15 territories in a region equal to one-sixth of the earth's surface and of vital importance to the U.S. The command is responsible for U.S. military contingency planning, operations, and security cooperation in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean (except U.S. commonwealths, territories, and possessions), as well as for the force protection of U.S. military resources at these locations. SOUTHCOM is also responsible for ensuring the defense of the Panama Canal and canal area.
