GAITHERSBURG, Md., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Tomorrow's cyber security leaders will learn about cyber security awareness, technologies and careers at Lockheed Martin's (NYSE: LMT) Cyber Security Awareness Day. Co-hosted today by the Corporation and the Tech Council of Maryland, the event brings together students from the state's top STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) high schools for a day of interactive demonstrations and educational sessions.
"Students today are more networked than ever, and that means they need to be more aware than ever of the cyber threats and how to protect their computer assets, mobile devices and personally identifiable information," said Charlie Croom, Lockheed Martin's Vice President of Cyber Solutions. "This event will not only help students learn about what it takes to stay safe online, it will also help them chart their course for higher education and a career in the fast-growing field of cyber security."
"Maryland is the epicenter of cyber security innovation and job creation throughout the nation," said Renee Winsky, CEO of the Tech Council of Maryland. "This event is critical and could not have come at a better time. Our state will see the need to fill 28,000 new tech/cyber jobs by 2012. Events like these help us nurture and solidify a future workforce needed to fill that demand."
The event, part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month, is being held at Lockheed Martin's NexGen Cyber Innovation and Technology Center. Several government agencies and universities are joining the event to discuss career and educational opportunities with students. Participants include the National Security Agency, Department of Homeland Security, National Institute for Standards and Technology, National Science Foundation, the University of Md., Johns Hopkins University, University of Md. University College, the University of Md. Baltimore County, Towson University, Capitol College, Prince George's and Montgomery Community Colleges.
