The U.S. Special Operations Command awarded Lockheed Martin [NYSE: LMT] an Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity contract to provide full-scope logistics support to warfighters around the globe. The Logistics Support Contract for U.S. Special Operations provides a wide range of mission-critical services, from aircraft and vehicle maintenance to IT and electronics support. The contract has a potential value of $5 billion over 10 years.

"We're honored to support the men and women of the Special Operations Command, and we're committed to providing these exceptional warfighters with the services they need to carry out their vital missions," said Lockheed Martin Chairman and CEO Bob Stevens. "We know the urgency of this work and our team is already in place, meeting the customer's needs."

The three primary components of the contract include: aircraft, vehicle and equipment maintenance, critical infrastructure support, and business process transformation. Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will repair and maintain the fleet of special operations aircraft, ground vehicles, weaponry and electronics equipment, to include managing a global supply chain of parts, warehouses, and depots. The company will also manage and upgrade the command's critical infrastructure, from secure IT networks to worldwide facilities. Lockheed Martin will work with the Special Operations Forces Support Activity to implement leaner, more efficient business processes that will deliver more reliable, responsive support at lower costs and on shorter timelines.

Boeing and other subcontractors will join the Lockheed Martin-led Logistics Support Contract team, providing capabilities that will benefit special operations forces and ensure they receive the highest possible level of support.

Lockheed Martin continues to expand its training and logistics services to military and government agencies worldwide, and has a global network of people, facilities, suppliers and partners supporting around-the-clock operations.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 136,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2009 sales of $45.2 billion.
