President Obama's 2009 President's Volunteer Service Awards were presented to 4,578 outstanding volunteers by Lockheed Martin leaders during National Volunteer Week (April 18-24, 2010). The awards are a program of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation established in 2003 to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in communities across the nation.

Lockheed Martin employees who volunteered more than 100 hours of service in 2009 received the award. Among other things, their activities included mentoring, tutoring, collecting food for the needy, participating in walks and runs for heath related causes and donating time to support efforts to help returning wounded veterans and their families.

"We are proud of our employees' achievements and are grateful for the volunteer hours they have devoted to their communities to improve the quality of life for all of us," said Senior Vice President-Corporate Communications Ron Rand. "Their selfless commitment to help others is truly making a difference in the lives of many."

In 2009, Lockheed Martin employees logged 1.4 million volunteer hours, which marks the fourth consecutive year volunteer hours topped the 1 million level.

Lockheed Martin employees have logged 7.8 million hours since 2002.
