In addition, Lockheed Martin successfully implemented and integrated the evolution of the Global Mobile Radio (GMR2) standard to GMR2+, providing improved performance and features over the prior generation of Lockheed Martin gateway products.
"The delivery of the final GSPS gateway is the culmination of an intense effort to develop the next generation of hand-held mobile satellite telephony," said Bob Kramer, vice president of Information Systems & Global Services-Defense's Space Solutions Division. "The gateways enable Inmarsat to offer its global subscriber base a high quality and feature rich hand-held mobile satellite service."
As part of the GSPS system Lockheed Martin has provided three gateways - located in Italy, Hawaii, and the Philippines - that will enable Inmarsat to provide global high quality handheld voice, fax and data service, even in remote geographical areas.
Lockheed Martin is a leader in the development of mobile satellite ground technology for both military and commercial users.
