Lockheed Martin announced today that seven Bay Area students have been selected for National Merit Lockheed Martin Academic Scholarships.

  The students receiving the scholarships are:
  --  Emily Lomax of Wilcox High School in Santa Clara, daughter of
      employees Curtis and Piper Lomax.  Lomax plans to attend the
      University of California, Santa Barbara to pursue a degree in
      mechanical engineering.
  --  Aaron Jaffey of Gunn High School in Palo Alto, son of employee Stephen
      Jaffey.  Jaffey plans to attend Stanford University in Stanford to
      pursue a degree in computer science and engineering.
  --  Rebecca Kennedy of Washington High School in Fremont, daughter of
      employee Kevin Kennedy.  Kennedy plans to attend the University of
      California, San Diego to pursue a degree in literature.
  --  Victoria Selzer of Irvington High School in Fremont, daughter of
      employee Greg Selzer.  Selzer plans to attend the University of
      California, San Diego to pursue a degree in biology
  --  Sabrina Siu of Homestead High School in Cupertino, daughter of
      employee Chea-Hwa Siu.  Siu plans to attend Princeton University in
      Princeton, N.J., to pursue a degree in environmental engineering.
  --  Marlena Vasquez of Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, daughter
      of employee Chris Vasquez.  Vasquez plans to attend Yale University in
      New Haven, Conn., to pursue a degree in political science.

  --  Brian Yasukawa of Lynbrook High School in San Jose, son of employee
      Daniel Yasukawa.  Yasukawa plans to attend the University of
      California, Los Angeles to pursue a degree in computer science.

The seven scholarship recipients are the children of Lockheed Martin employees working in Sunnyvale, Calif. Altogether, 72 students throughout the United States who are National Merit Finalists have been selected for 2009 National Merit Lockheed Martin Academic Scholarships. Funded by the Lockheed Martin Foundation and administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corp., the program awards each student $3,000 per year for up to four years of undergraduate study.

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. chose the 2009 scholarship recipients from a group of candidates who are children of Lockheed Martin employees and stepchildren who primarily reside with a Lockheed Martin employee. The candidates first qualified as merit program semifinalists on the basis of their Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test scores and then advanced to the finalist level by meeting academic and other requirements set by the National Merit Scholarship Corp.
