WASHINGTON

Leroy Jeter, a Lockheed Martin employee from Herndon, Va., was recently awarded the Greater Washington Urban League's Chairman's Award for his dedicated service and contributions to the League. Jeter has served on the League's Board of Directors for two years, and leads numerous corporate outreach and fundraising initiatives on behalf of the organization.

"Leroy is an exemplary Board Member who really understands the mission of the League," said Jerry A. Moore III, the Chair of the Greater Washington Urban League's Board of Directors. "As the Chair of our annual golf tournament fundraiser for the past two years, he has worked tirelessly to identify resources for our vital work that moves the area's most vulnerable residents to economic self-sufficiency. His chairing of the tournament has been a commitment, not just a position."

Founded in 1938, the Greater Washington Urban League supports some 60,000 D.C. area residents annually with programs ranging from aging services to education, employment and training, and housing and community development. The League's mission is to increase the economic and political empowerment of African Americans and other minorities and to help all Americans share equally in the responsibilities and rewards of full citizenship.

"Supporting the Greater Washington Urban League has been a tremendously rewarding experience for me, and I'm honored to have been recognized with this award," said Jeter, a program director with Lockheed Martin's Information Systems & Global Services business area. "The League is making a real difference for the people of Washington, and I look forward to helping them continue their outstanding service to our community in the years to come."

The award was presented at the League's Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 23 at George Washington University. Lockheed Martin was also recognized at the event with a Platinum Award for its support and sponsorship of the League.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 146,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2008 sales of $42.7 billion.
