Today, Lockheed Martin announced that it reduced its total year-to-year water consumption by 11 percent in 2008. Equating to approximately 275 million gallons in water savings, the corporation focused on facility and cooling system efficiency projects, detecting and repairing leaks, and installing landscape irrigation controls.

Water conservation is part of the Corporation's comprehensive environmental program that has established an aggressive 25 percent reduction goal for carbon emissions, waste and water use by 2012.

Additionally, Lockheed Martin continues to earn high-level recognition for its environmental performance, with facilities across the United States and the United Kingdom receiving numerous awards based on independent assessments and stringent metrics during 2008.

Representative examples of the accomplishments follow:

Eagan, MN and Grand Prairie, TX - These two facilities were recognized with Energy Star Awards in 2008. These awards are conferred annually by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, to honor organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through energy efficiency.

Denver, CO - The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment recently recognized Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company Denver as a Gold Leader in the Colorado Environmental Leadership Program (CELP). The award recognizes consistent compliance with environmental regulations and continual improvement beyond compliance requirements. This is the ninth year Lockheed Martin has been honored as a Gold Leader, the highest level of state recognition.

Syracuse, NY - Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems & Sensors in Syracuse, NY was recognized with the 2008 Industrial Wastewater Achievement Award from the Onondaga County Department of Water Environment Protection.

Sunnyvale, CA - The California Integrated Waste Management Board named Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale a winner of the 2008 Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP). The award recognizes Lockheed Martin's environmental commitment through the implementation of waste reduction and recycling programs. WRAP honorees have diverted more than one million tons of material from landfills, and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by more than one-half million tons of CO2 through recycling.

Manassas, VA - Lockheed Martin's facility in Manassas was a 2008 winner of the Virginia E4 Environmental Excellence Program. The Virginia Environmental Excellence Program encourages superior performance through environmental management systems and pollution prevention. The E4 level differentiates a facility with a fully implemented environmental management system, sustainable environmental progress and community involvement.

United Kingdom - Four Lockheed Martin UK business units recently were independently audited and awarded ISO 14001 by LRQA (Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance). ISO 14001 is a set of guidelines and requirements for how an organization determines its impact upon the environment, and arrangements for environmental management. Lockheed Martin sites Farnborough, Farnham, Havant and London have been granted this accreditation.

Marietta, GA - A finalist in the State of Georgia's Clean Air Campaign's 2008 PACE Innovator Award for electric vehicle use and savings associated with program. Since the program's inception in 2007, approximately 43.34 tons of carbon dioxide has been saved, along with more than 4,567 gallons of regular gasoline.

Fort Worth, TX - Lockheed Martin Aeronautics received two awards from the City of Fort Worth Water Department. One award was for 12 years of 100 percent compliance with local, state and federal pretreatment regulations. The second was a Pollution Prevention Award in recognition of the significant efforts in the use of materials, processes or practices that reduce or eliminate wastes and which serve to protect natural resources and our environment.
