Lockheed Martin engineers and scientists received 30 prestigious awards at the 23rd annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) held in Baltimore, Md., on February 21. Lockheed Martin is a sponsor of the awards and Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Robert J. Stevens delivered the keynote address at the event.

"Engineers are the heart of our company," Stevens said. "Our success flows from their talents, their energy and their ability to innovate. We take great pride in the accomplishments of our engineers--and all of our employees--but we're especially pleased when their work is recognized by such a highly regarded organization as BEYA. On behalf of all 146,000 Lockheed Martin employees, I extend congratulations to the winners and our thanks to BEYA."

Among the winners was Nikki Boone, Senior Electronics Engineer at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics Company in Fort Worth, Tex., who received the Black Engineer of the Year Community Service Award. Boone's community outreach efforts have included educational initiatives and programs in the Fort Worth public schools and hands-on building projects in New Orleans' Gentilly and Upper Ninth Ward areas.

Twenty-nine Lockheed Martin employees also were named 2009 Modern-Day Technology Leaders, who are considered rising stars in shaping the future of engineering, science, and technology. These awardees include:
