HOUSTON

Lockheed Martin has been selected as Johnson Space Center's (JSC) Large Business Prime Contractor of the Year for 2008. The selection means that Lockheed Martin will be JSC's candidate for the agency-level award which will be presented at NASA's First Annual Small Business Symposium and Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November.

Lockheed Martin was nominated for the outstanding support it provides to small business subcontracting initiatives in support of JSC contracts. The nomination cited The Aircraft Simulation Program (ASP) team for their subcontracting efforts with the New Mexico State University Physical Science Lab and excellent performance in achieving their Small Business Contracting goals on the program.

"We are extremely proud to have been nominated and selected for this prestigious award," said Rick Hieb, Vice President of Civil Programs for Lockheed Martin Mission Services in Houston. "We have many years of experience working with the small business community, and we carefully choose and support small businesses that can meet the challenging requirements of human space flight. We also mentor small businesses in order to help them become better suppliers to the nation's space program."

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2007 sales of $41.9 billion.
