Designed as an infantry carrier, the JLTV Category B model was unveiled in October 2007, while the Utility Vehicle Light Category C model, which is designed with a focus on payload, was introduced in February 2008. The prototypes are undergoing 400 to 500 miles of rigorous secondary and off-road testing daily at a variety of facilities across the country.

"The original goal for our two prototypes was to successfully complete 25,000 combined test miles by the end of the year," said Louis DeSantis, vice president and general manager of Ground Vehicle Systems at Lockheed Martin Systems Integration - Owego. "Reaching this milestone ahead of schedule is further evidence of just how committed we are to giving the customer a mature low-risk, and technically innovative solution that can deliver important new capabilities to Soldiers and Marines as quickly as possible."

Lockheed Martin is scheduled to feature its third JLTV prototype, the General Purpose Mobility Vehicle Payload Category A model, at Modern Day Marine September 30 - October 2 and at the Association of the United States Army's Annual Meeting and Exhibition October 6-8.

  The Lockheed Martin-led JLTV Team includes:

  -- BAE Systems Mobility & Protection Systems, providing advanced armor
      solutions and production facilities for high volume assembly;
  -- Alcoa Defense, supplying materials experience, design services and
      aluminum components that give the vehicle its structural strength at
      reduced weight; and
  -- JWF - Defense Systems, offering state-of-the-art machining and
      cost-effective fabrication.

Lockheed Martin serves as the prime contractor and design agent, providing systems engineering, platform integration, design expertise, and program and supply chain management.

Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin is a global security company that employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.
