Lockheed Martin was presented a prestigious CIO 100 award for its Global Vision(TM) capability at a recent symposium and award ceremony hosted by CIO Magazine. Announced annually, the CIO 100 awards are a testament to those businesses that are creating business value by innovating with technology.

Global Vision is Lockheed Martin's corporate-wide, net-enabled capability which affords real-time development of advanced, integrated technology concepts and solutions on both classified and unclassified networks.

An integral part of experimentation and demonstration, Global Vision leverages Lockheed Martin laboratory environments including the Center for Innovation, Lockheed Martin's world-class facility for experimentation and analysis where customers and partners collaborate on developing net-enabled solutions to meet their most pressing needs.

Global Vision is the result of a strong partnership between the chief technology and chief information offices in Lockheed Martin.

According to Dr. Ray O. Johnson, senior vice president and Chief Technology Officer, "Global Vision enables collaboration among more than 60 sites across the company, linking our 70,000-employee technical community internally -- and with partners and customers -- to develop the type of solutions needed to address 21st Century global security challenges."

"The technology architecture we have built to support Global Vision is essential to developing the highly integrated and complex technical solutions we must deliver to our customers, and therefore is critical to our collaboration needs now and in the future," said Sondra Barbour, Chief Information Officer.

In 2007, Lockheed Martin established direct connectivity to the Defense Research & Engineering Network (DREN) through Global Vision. The DREN is the official Department of Defense (DoD) long-haul network for computational research, engineering, and testing in support of DoD's simulation, engineering, and test community. The connection between the DREN and Global Vision links thousands of scientists and engineers at various government laboratories, test centers, and industry locations to collaborate on a broad range of development, and modeling and simulation activities.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2007 sales of $41.9 billion.
