Bob Stevens, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lockheed Martin Corp. , was inducted today as a Full Member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA). Dr. Edward Stone, IAA president, and Dr. Jean-Michel Contant, IAA secretary-general, presented Stevens with a Full Member pin and certificate at the company's headquarters in Bethesda, Md.

"I'm deeply honored to have been elected to this very prestigious international organization. The IAA is especially distinctive in that it is the only international academy of elected members in the broad area of astronautics and space. I'm also very proud of the fact that Lockheed Martin has an active engagement in the IAA," said Stevens.

"It is a pleasure to welcome Bob Stevens as a member of the Academy in recognition of his distinguished career as a leader in space and astronautics," said Dr. Stone. "We look forward to working with him in helping shape and inform the future of this newest realm of human activity by fostering an international community committed to expanding the frontiers of space for the benefit of humankind."

The International Academy of Astronautics was founded in Stockholm in August 1960. Since that time, IAA has brought together the world's foremost experts in the disciplines of astronautics on a regular basis to recognize the accomplishments of their peers, to explore and discuss cutting-edge issues in space research and technology, and to provide direction and guidance in the non-military uses of space and the ongoing exploration of the solar system. IAA has 1200 members from 74 countries.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation reported 2007 sales of $41.9 billion.
