Lockheed Martin Receives Defense Security Award
PRNewswire
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.

The Defense Security Services has selected a unit of Lockheed Martin Mission Services as a recipient of the James S. Cogswell Outstanding Industrial Security Achievement Award for 2008, for excellence and innovation in their overall security program management, implementation and oversight.

The Lockheed Martin unit, based in Colorado Springs, was one of 23 contractors to receive the 42-year-old award, named after the first chief of the unified office of industrial security.

The award criteria focuses on principles of industrial security excellence. Factors include establishing and maintaining a security program that far exceeds the basic National Industrial Security Program requirements; and providing leadership to other cleared facilities in establishing best practices while maintaining the highest standards for security.

To be considered for the honor, nominees must go through a selection process that requires them to have two consecutive superior industrial security ratings and be vetted by more than 20 government agencies, among other things.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 140,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation reported 2007 sales of $41.9 billion.
