Lockheed Martin announced today that it has signed a cooperative research agreement with the U.S. Army's Communications-Electronics Research Development and Engineering Center's (CERDEC) Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate (I2WD) to develop tactical intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance capabilities. Under this cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA), Lockheed Martin and I2WD will leverage resources to develop advanced ISR capabilities vital to the Army's role in the global war on terrorism.

Through this CRADA, Lockheed Martin will work with I2WD to develop tactical ISR tools and technologies that support current and future Army ISR warfighting requirements. Together the team will investigate capabilities that enhance persistent ISR in a global networked environment; improve situational awareness and knowledge management across multiple domains and improve decision making abilities at all echelons. This cooperative research will include experimentation, development, & analysis of operational concepts and wargaming.

As CRADA work begins, the team will leverage Lockheed Martin's wide area network infrastructure as well as its Center for Innovation, a state-of-the art facility designed for analysis and synthesis of net-centric warfare capabilities. This world-class laboratory provides a worldwide interconnected network environment and a robust analytical global information grid test bed where the team can research, prototype and develop future ISR designs, processes, and products in a dynamic, interoperable operational construct. The Center's suite of advanced modeling and simulation tools will help the team to better define advanced ISR solutions to fit specific Army missions.
