Lockheed Martin and Saab Systems announced today that Saab's 9LV Combat Management System is operational in Lockheed Martin Canada's Combat System Integration Lab in Montreal. The 9LV provides a core element of the Lockheed Martin Halifax Class Modernization (HCM) Team's Canadian Advanced Command and Control System, or "CanACCS-9LV." The system is an advanced command and control system that Lockheed Martin's industry team is proposing for the Canadian Navy's HALIFAX Class Modernization Program, which will upgrade the nation's 12 multi-mission frigates.

Already deployed in 14 international navies and on more than 200 warships worldwide, Saab's 9LV Combat Management System will provide the Canadian Navy's HALIFAX class frigate fleet with advanced warfighting capabilities, including proven Enhanced Sea Sparrow Missile anti-ship missile defense capabilities. Lockheed Martin Canada is the original combat systems integrator for the Halifax frigate program and provides in-service support for both the Halifax- and Iroquois-class ships. Lockheed Martin and Saab Systems have worked together for over two years to ensure the successful integration of Saab's 9LV with proven and deployed Canadian Navy command and control systems capabilities.

"We have successfully demonstrated the low risk integration of CanACCS-9LV with selected new and legacy elements of the combat system for the modernized Halifax class," said Tom Digan, President of Lockheed Martin Canada.

"CanACCS-9LV fully leverages our open architecture 9LV Combat Management System and significantly reduces risk by integrating proven Canadian Navy components," said Svante Larsson, vice president, Naval Systems, Saab Systems. "Our successful experience in combat system modernization programs coupled with Lockheed Martin's knowledge and expertise in Canada and internationally provides for a state of the art, low risk solution."

Lockheed Martin Canada's facility in Montreal is the Combat Systems Integration Centre of Excellence for the Canadian Navy. The facility was established as part of the company's commitment as original equipment manufacturer of the current combat system onboard the HALIFAX class and has served for the past two decades as the centre for software development, integration and in-service support. The facility's capabilities allow the Navy and Lockheed Martin to address critical areas of risk before shipboard integration.

Lockheed Martin Canada's Halifax Class Modernization industry team includes Saab Systems, IBM Canada, xwave, CAE Professional Services and L-3 Electronic Systems.

Saab serves the global market with world-leading products, services and solutions ranging from military defence to civil security.
