Lockheed Martin's Systems Integration business unit in Owego, NY has achieved Capability Maturity Model(R) Integration (CMMI(R)) Maturity Level 5 for the second time, becoming one of the first organizations to achieve this level under version 1.2, the newest, most rigorous version of the model and appraisal method.

Established by Carnegie Mellon(R) University's Software Engineering Institute, the CMMI gauges how effectively an organization implements engineering and management processes used in performing work on programs. CMMI Maturity Level 5 is the highest rating an organization can achieve and is indicative of process implementation that improves quality and provides predictable process performance.

"Achievement of Maturity Level 5 to the latest version of the CMMI validates our demonstrated capability as a world-class systems integrator to provide our customers the highest-quality products at the lowest possible risk," said Systems Integration - Owego President Frank C. Meyer. "Our highly skilled workforce deserves the credit for this achievement, the result of a disciplined approach to performance and dedication to excellence."

Major programs assessed at Systems Integration - Owego included the VH-71 presidential helicopter program and the MH-60R multi-mission helicopter program for the U.S. Navy; the A-10C Precision Engagement upgrade program and the Combat Search and Rescue proposal for the U.S. Air Force; and the Remote Computer Reader for the United States Postal Service.

This achievement also marks a decade of exceptional commitment to process improvement by Systems Integration - Owego. The company was a pilot site for the Software Engineering Institute to test the CMMI version 1.02 product suite in May 2001. In June 2003, it was among the first in the U.S. to achieve Maturity Level 5 to the full scope of version 1.1 of the CMMI model. Prior to that, the unit achieved Maturity Level 5 to the Software CMM(R) in December 1997.
