The U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command (AMCOM) recently awarded the Longbow Limited Liability Company (LBL), a Joint Venture of Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman Corporation , a $29.2 million contract modification to produce 12 new Fire Control Radar (FCR) systems and 13 Mast Mounted Assemblies for the U.S. Army.

"This contract modification brings the total number of FCR systems currently on order to 54 and will bring the total number of equivalent systems produced to over 400," said Jerry Garman, Longbow FCR program director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. "Our products are helping to transform the Warfighter's ability to achieve mission success on every battlefield."

The supplemental order for FY 07 modifies the May 2006 contract in which the Army awarded Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control a contract to build 37 radar systems and associated support for the U.S. Army, including quantities for foreign military sales.

The Longbow FCR program has sustained 11 years of production for domestic and international customers. The original FCR production contract award in 1995 was for 227 Longbow FCRs for the U.S. Army and 90 FCRs for the United Kingdom and other international sales followed.

In September 2006, the Army definitized a separate Longbow FCR contract for Apache Block III improvements valued at $110 million. The Apache Block III contract will replace two radar line-replaceable units with the Radar Electronics Unit and will add a net-centric capability to the AH-64 Apache helicopter.

"Our focus is on providing capabilities that enable Warfighters to meet their defining moments with confidence. The proven performance of the Longbow FCR gives Apache air crews automatic multi-target recognition and engagement capability. This is a dominant factor in battle management," Garman said.

Work is performed at Lockheed Martin facilities in Orlando and Ocala, FL, and at the Northrop Grumman facility in Baltimore, MD.
