Lockheed Martin has presented President George W. Bush's prestigious President's Volunteer Service Awards to 444 Space Systems Company employees who volunteered thousands of hours of service last year. The corporation recognized these employees' exceptional community efforts in honor of National Volunteer Week.

The award recipients are among 4,101 Lockheed Martin employees nationwide who collectively logged more than 1.3 million volunteer hours in 2006, up 30 percent from 2005. Local employees collectively logged more than 7,200 hours.

The President's Volunteer Service Awards are presented annually to individuals who volunteer 100 or more hours in their communities during the year. Recipients of the award receive a note of congratulations from President Bush, an official President's Volunteer Service Award pin, a personalized certificate of achievement and a letter from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation.

In 2006, employees from Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company volunteered thousands of hours for a wide variety of community service projects including blood donor drives, health and human service programs, classroom mentoring and tutoring, and projects that support the corporation's customers such as military organizations. The following lists the number of employees recognized at each of Space Systems Company's four largest locations:

  * Denver Facility -- 178 employees for a total of 45,745 hours
  * Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans -- 35 employees for a total of
    7,524 hours
  * Newtown, Pa. Facility -- 14 employees for a total of 523 hours
  * Sunnyvale, Calif. Facility -- 167 employees for a total of 40,830 hours
