Two Lockheed Martin executives will be recognized as Asian American Engineers of the Year by the Chinese Institute of Engineers-USA at their annual award event on March 31, 2007 in Washington, DC. Ron Nakamoto, Chief Operating Officer, Savi Group and Clement Chen, vice president, Strategic Development both from Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems & Solutions (IS&S), are two of the honorees this year.

Nakamoto began his career with the US Army as a Second Lieutenant in 1975, after receiving a full ROTC scholarship. Four years later, he was promoted to Captain and assigned to the elite Secretary of the Air Force Special Programs Office to develop intelligence and communication systems for the US Army and Air Force.

Nakamoto has had a distinguished career at Lockheed Martin successfully leading the development of more than 12 programs that directly contributed to the defense of the nation. He is also recognized for his ability to grow businesses, achieving a record $3.3 billion of awards in 2006. He recently assumed a new assignment as the Chief Operating Officer for Savi Group, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the corporation in January 2007, and is actively working to help Savi realize its vision of Total Asset Management. The acquisition enables Lockheed Martin to expand on its logistics solutions that track assets from factory to foxhole in a secure, accurate and timely manner. Prior to this assignment, Nakamoto served as vice president and general manager for the Intelligence Systems line of business, which assisted government customers in developing and operating intelligence systems that help the nation monitor its enemies at all times.

Chen is a graduate of the US Naval Academy, and began his career as a naval officer specializing in surface warfare. He later became an operational test director for naval engineering and combat systems. Chen also has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility in finance, business development, business operations and corporate development with IBM, Loral and now Lockheed Martin.

In his role as vice president, strategic development for Lockheed Martin IS&S, Chen is responsible for the development of overall strategic direction, enterprise business strategies, mergers and acquisitions and emerging technology investments. Previously, he served as vice president, strategic analysis and development at corporate headquarters, where he crafted corporate business and technology strategies, fomented business architecture innovation and provided industry thought leadership on network centric warfare.

The Asian American Engineer of the Year Award is an annual national event presented in conjunction with the celebration of National Engineers Week in the United States. It creates a meaningful platform to recognize outstanding Asian American professionals in academia, public services and corporate entities for their personal achievements as well as for the significant contributions to their associated institution, our communities and our nation. Many of the recipients represent monumental breakthroughs in science and technology.
