Under the contract, a Lockheed Martin-led team will provide end-to-end systems engineering, development test, integration and life cycle support for all in-service U.S. Navy submarine combat systems, as well as for systems that will be delivered to the new Virginia Class submarines. The contract is funded for the first year and includes multiple options and award terms for up to ten years. Team members include General Dynamics Electric Boat; Anteon Corporation; Progeny Systems Corporation; Gryphon Technologies, LC; ASSETT, Inc.; and North Carolina A&T State University.
To successfully implement the SWFTS program across the U.S. Navy's submarine force, Lockheed Martin developed strategic relationships with industrial and academic partners who are committed to an open business model. The team members' laboratories, major integration facilities and personnel will be connected across a secure wide area network, allowing timely and affordable task performance across a wide geographic distribution. By leveraging flexible and competitive workload sourcing based on each specific tasking, the team is able to offer the Navy the "right skill, right away, at the right cost."
"We will continue to work closely with the Navy labs and our academic and industrial partners to ensure the best capabilities are rapidly and affordably transitioned to the fleet," said Rick Udicious, vice president, Integration and Anti-Submarine Warfare programs, at Lockheed Martin. "This flexible and open approach will ensure that our combat systems use the best available sensors, software and electronics from multiple sources."
To accelerate the delivery of capabilities to the submarine force, Lockheed Martin will leverage the same technology insertion process that the company pioneered on the U.S. Navy's Acoustic Rapid COTS Insertion (ARCI) program. This will enable capabilities to be leveraged across a wide range of submarine classes, including diesel electric submarines, on the global market.
Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin employs about 135,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.
