MANASSAS, Va.

A strong record of responsible environmental stewardship by Lockheed Martin's Manassas, VA facility has resulted in an invitation for the site to participate in a new U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)-funded Facility Reporting Project pilot program. The facility is one of just 10 selected to participate in this national pilot program organized by the Ceres coalition, a network of investment funds, environmental organizations and other public interest groups.

Funded through a grant by the EPA, Ceres' Facility Reporting Project aims to develop a model reporting standard for communicating environmental compliance and performance for industrial facilities. The Project will ultimately help companies to provide improved and transparent facility- specific reporting on workplace conditions, energy usage and local community environmental impact.

Lockheed Martin was one of two companies in Virginia selected to participate in the program by the Virginia State Department of Environmental Quality.

"We recommended Lockheed Martin because they have always been quick to embrace innovative ideas that create better environmental stewardship," said David K. Paylor, director of the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. "We appreciate Lockheed Martin's leadership in developing our environmental results in programs in Virginia."

"Lockheed Martin's Manassas facility was selected because the EPA has a lot of confidence in its strong environmental performance, its effective management system and very capable environmental staff," said Dan Fiorino, the director of the Performance Track Program for the Environmental Protection Agency.

"We are honored to have been selected to participate in this important project," said John O'Neill, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin's Undersea Systems line of business based in Manassas. "We view this opportunity as an endorsement of our proven environmental management practices at our facility."

Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin employs about 135,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services.
