O'FALLON, Ill.

Lockheed Martin today opened the doors to a new customer support office in O'Fallon. The 2,200- square-foot office located near Scott Air Force Base (AFB) reflects Lockheed Martin's expanding presence in the St. Louis area in support of its growing regional business base.

The unclassified facility will be home to a Lockheed Martin logistics team focused on exploring advanced concepts for situational awareness and visualization of worldwide transportation and distribution operations. The facility, which will support 13 Lockheed Martin employees, will also sponsor research and development projects to support future programs and requirements.

"Opening this office is further evidence of the growing relationship between Lockheed Martin and our USTRANSCOM customer," said Angela Heise, U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) program manager. "We are proud to be part of the O'Fallon community and look forward to working more with USTRANSCOM."

Operations at this new facility will build upon Lockheed Martin engineering and domain skills gained while developing and maintaining the Global Transportation Network (GTN). GTN is a command and control (C2) transportation and logistics information management system designed to support the USTRANSCOM global distribution mission via the Internet's World Wide Web.

"GTN collects and integrates information from 28 existing transportation and distribution systems and more than 130 commercial transportation operators to provide in-transit visibility of deploying forces, equipment and sustaining supplies" Heise said. "The data GTN collects is used to support transportation planning, tracking and decision-making for our military customers."

In 2005, USTRANSCOM awarded Lockheed Martin a 12-month extension of the GTN contract worth $21.3M. The extension is scheduled through August 2006.

The O'Fallon laboratory is also linked to the Lockheed Martin Center for Innovation in Suffolk, VA, and will support net-centric operations, such as the Global Information Grid and modeling and simulation training capabilities for warfighters.

Lockheed Martin is a major supplier of logistics systems and services to military and civil government customers. The corporation provides solutions for platform maintenance and repair, material readiness and distribution, and global supply chain command and control.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 135,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2005 sales of $37.2 billion.
