The NOVA award program recognizes individuals and teams who have made outstanding contributions to the Corporation's mission and business objectives in the four categories of exceptional service, leadership, teamwork and technical excellence.
Two employees received individual awards: Abhijit Mahalanobis for work supporting the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems program and Robert (Neal) Lazarus for exceptional community service. Teams from the Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS) program and Warfighter Simulation (WARSIM) programs each received the corporation's prestigious award as well.

"This year's honorees are responsible for customer- satisfying performance, key technical breakthroughs, strategically critical new business wins, leadership and selfless service to the community, demonstrating the commitment of Lockheed Martin and its people to our customers, our shareholders and the communities in which we live and work."
Abhijit Mahalanobis of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control received a NOVA award for developing a strategy that led to a major Aided Target Recognition (ATR) contract award on the Future Combat System program. His leadership and vision on the proposal has established Lockheed Martin as one of the Army's recognized leaders in ATR technology.
Robert (Neal) Lazarus from Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control was honored with a NOVA award for his exceptional service to the Central Florida community. Throughout his career Neal has worked with his peers and with management to lead numerous events throughout the country that help community organizations. During the past 18 years, Lazarus has held positions on the boards of and planned events for more than seven large community organizations, including the Central Florida Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America, the Teen Sportfishing Association, Food For Families, the United Way and several others.
Missiles and Fire Control's MEADS team was honored for successfully completing the final Risk Reduction Effort System Demonstration in Italy -- the decisive event that convinced the United States, Germany and Italy to proceed into the program's $3 billion Design and Development phase. MEADS is a mobile air defense system that incorporates the battle-proven hit-to-kill PAC-3 Missile. The system includes surveillance and fire control sensors, battle management/communication centers and high firepower launchers.
The Lockheed Martin MEADS team included Orlando residents Gene K. Huddleston, Richard B. Wavell, Ronald B. Westbrook, William T. Boyd, Linda W. Brummett, David P. Gibbs, Joseph G. Steffens, Robert A. Grubbs, Clyde E. Luce, Mark T. Housman and Frederick W. Kent.
The WARSIM team at Lockheed Martin Simulation, Training & Support received a NOVA award for producing a battle planning and strategy program for the U.S. Army to train Brigade, Division and Corps Commanders and their staffs. The team earned the confidence of its customer and the system's users, resulting in the award of a four-year, $50 million contract extension. WARSIM was also selected as one of the top five Department of Defense programs in 2004.
