Lockheed Martin's Global Combat Support System-Air Force (GCSS-AF) has received the Government Award for Excellence in Enterprise Integration from the Association for Enterprise Integration (AFEI). GCSS-AF was honored for applying enterprise integration tools in novel and effective ways.

The AFEI Government Awards program recognizes the achievements of both government and industry project teams that exemplify excellence in integrated enterprises and are models of the best applications of technology and leadership to improve enterprise performance.

"The entire team, including the Air Force, DISA, Lockheed Martin and our industry partners, is extremely honored to be recognized for our efforts on GCSS-AF and our work to transform how the Air Force collects, synthesizes and presents logistics information," said Randy Andrews, GCSS-AF program manager at Lockheed Martin Integrated Systems & Solutions (IS&S).

The GCSS-AF Services Oriented Architecture provides enterprise services, including the Air Force Portal, which provides more than 700,000 Air Force users a single point of entry to applications, information and collaboration tools. The Portal is the premier web gateway to the Air Force enterprise, giving warfighters worldwide instant, secure access to the information they need -- from the status of critical parts and supplies to up-to-date information on their benefits.

The GCSS-AF Portal also provides secure instant messaging to other Air Force users and to friends and family back home, allowing deployed troops to "chat" with loved ones from any web-connected computer.

"The foundation of GCSS-AF is a robust enterprise architecture and integrated IT technologies that enhance operational effectiveness, providing an invaluable advantage to the United States Air Force," said John Slota, director of IS&S's Operational Support Systems -- Air Force. "Our team strives to deliver the best systems and technologies, and receiving awards such as this validates our efforts."

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 130,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2004 sales of $35.5 billion.
