Lockheed Martin has opened a new Information Technology facility in Baltimore County, Md., to support its federal IT contract work in the Baltimore area.

The new offices at 7152 Windsor Blvd., in Woodlawn will house 250 IT professionals who will be providing Information Technology services for the Social Security Administration. Last November, the company won the SSA Agency Wide Support Services Contract, a seven-year program encompassing a complete range of services related to SSA's major systems modernization initiatives. Lockheed Martin IT employees' positions range from application design and development to database administration to project management.

Lockheed Martin has announced plans to increase its presence in the county by an additional 100 technical positions to work at SSA. The company also supports the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and other U.S. HHS agencies. Approximately 1,100 Lockheed Martin Information Technology employees work at existing facilities in Woodlawn and at their customers' sites in Baltimore County.

This past spring, the company hired more than 100 new graduates from local colleges and universities to meet contract requirements in the Baltimore area. In addition to the Social Security Administration, other federal activities supported by the company include the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and Administration for Children and Families.

A ceremony was held today at the facility. On hand to commemorate the grand opening were Linda Gooden, President of Lockheed Martin Information Technology; James T. Smith, Jr., Baltimore County Executive; representatives of University of Maryland, Baltimore County; Towson University, and Villa Julie College; and other company and government officials.

Ms. Gooden said, "The expansion of our presence in Baltimore is a tribute to the partnership that has developed these past 16 years with the Social Security Administration. We are excited about having the opportunity to continue our work with the agency in these new facilities and to further strengthen our commitment to this community."

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 130,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2004 sales of $35.5 billion.
