Lockheed Martin Unit Achieves CMMI(R) Maturity Level 5, the Highest Level

Lockheed Martin's Transportation and Security Solutions (TSS) unit achieved the Software Engineering Institute's top rating using the Capability Maturity Model(R) Integration (CMMI(R)), ranking TSS at the highest maturity level possible.

CMMI is a model for improving and appraising performance of development organizations. The model provides precise and detailed benchmarking of process performance within and across organizations and industry segments to help customers calibrate contractor capabilities. CMMI outlines five levels of organizational maturity, each comprised of a defined set of process areas.

Level 5, the ranking achieved by TSS, is the top level of maturity in the model and reflects optimized enterprise-wide processes and an ingrained culture of continuous process improvement. Level 5 focuses on continually improving process performance and optimizing to meet business objectives.

The CMMI appraisal, performed May 13-20 by The Process Company, LLC, included three of the company's most complex programs -- the National Archives and Records Administration Electronic Records Archive program, and Federal Aviation Administration programs En Route Automation Modernization and User Request Evaluation Tool. SCAMPI(SM) Version 1.1, the standard CMMI appraisal method, was used.

In addition to the organization's processes, each program was appraised using the staged representation of the CMMI-SE/SW/IPPD/SS Version 1.1 model on the systems engineering, software engineering, integrated product and process development and supplier sourcing processes.
