Lockheed Martin today announced that Lockheed Martin Space Operations' (LMSO) Cargo Mission Contract (CMC) has received recommendation for AS9100 certification from Det Norske Veritas, or DNV, an accredited, independent foundation with the objective of safeguarding life, property, and the environment and a leading international provider of risk management services.

CMC provides planning, preparation and integration of cargo transported to and from the International Space Station via the Shuttle and Russian Soyuz and Progress vehicles. CMC also provides Space Shuttle stowage integration services and pre-packed cargo processing for NASA.

AS9100 is the aerospace industry's quality system standard for quality assurance in design, development, production, installation, and servicing. Aligning many of the existing Aerospace Quality System requirements, AS9100 is the first global aerospace standard available for use across the global aerospace community that meets the requirements of aerospace companies worldwide. AS9100 supplements ISO 9001, the international Quality Management System standard, as it addresses additional expectations of the aerospace industry.

"This recommendation demonstrates the value of our contributions and services," said Celia Lang, CMC Program Manager. "AS9100 certification strengthens our competitive position and validates our efforts to standardize quality processes."

"We are committed to continual improvement," said Ken Reightler, President of LMSO. "This recognition of LMSO's dedicated performance and quality management is truly rewarding."
