Lockheed Martin Employee Volunteers Make a Difference in the Community

BETHESDA, Md.

Lockheed Martin employees in 2004 donated more than 680,000 volunteer hours to community- service activities ranging from student mentoring to collection drives for U.S. troops. The Corporation is recognizing employees' exceptional volunteer efforts during National Volunteer Week (April 17 to April 23).

Lockheed Martin will present George W. Bush's prestigious President's Volunteer Service Award to 2,146 employees who recorded more than 100 hours of service on the Corporation's volunteer Web site in 2004. In addition, nearly 6,100 Lockheed Martin employee volunteers who registered on the volunteer Web site will receive a Certificate of Appreciation from their company.

"Lockheed Martin has a long tradition of community service, and the Corporation applauds its employee volunteers, who are making a real difference in our communities," said Bob Stevens, Lockheed Martin president and chief executive officer. "Our employees' volunteer work is touching a wide variety of people -- from at risk students in our inner cities to brave members of the U.S. armed forces."

During National Volunteer Week, Stevens will present the President's Volunteer Service Awards to Lockheed Martin corporate employees who work in Bethesda, Md. Executives at Lockheed Martin sites nationwide will present the awards to qualifying employees at their sites.

The President's Volunteer Service Award is issued by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, an organization created by President Bush to encourage community service and civic participation. Lockheed Martin is a "certifying organization" authorized to certify employees as recipients of the award.
