CHERRY HILL, N.J.

Lockheed Martin named a senior engineer from its Advanced Technology Laboratories as a Lockheed Martin Fellow, an honor given to only one percent of the Corporation's 60,000 technical employees worldwide.

Shamong resident Henry Mendenhall, principal member of the engineering staff, received the honor in recognition of a 19-year career of exceptional technical achievement and leadership.

"Henry exemplifies the value we place on technical leadership and innovation at Lockheed Martin," said James P. Marsh, director of the Advanced Technology Laboratories. "He has consistently solved some of our most difficult technical challenges with creativity and decisiveness."

Mendenhall has played crucial roles in the development of many advanced computing technologies in artificial intelligence and information assurance. His work has produced enabling technologies for some of the nation's most important national defense initiatives as well as contributed substantially to the applied research community. Mendenhall has served as technical reviewer for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, U.S. Army, and other defense and engineering firms. He has several publications to his credit, two patents, and 18 peer, management, and external awards. Mendenhall holds a bachelor's degree in philosophy from St. Joseph's University and a master's degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania.

"The Lockheed Martin Fellows program demonstrates the Corporation's recognition that technology excellence is central to its success," Mendenhall said. "I'm happy that our work at the Advanced Technology Laboratories has contributed to that excellence."

The Lockheed Martin Fellows distinction goes to those employees who continually demonstrate technical excellence, technical leadership with significant business impact, willingness and ability to mentor, improvement within their discipline, and recognition of technical excellence by their peers.

Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin employs about 130,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, and integration of advanced technology systems, products, and services.
