ORLANDO, Fla.

More than 500 employee volunteers from Lockheed Martin Central Florida businesses will come together on Saturday, September 18, to support their company's annual Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) Day of Caring. This is the second consecutive year that the Orlando Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida is the benefactor of the annual employee volunteer event, which has a decade-long tradition of Lockheed Martin participation and support of the United Way and its agencies.

"The Central Florida Lockheed Martin companies come together as one company, one team to support the United Way at our annual Day of Caring because we share their mission to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our communities," said William Brown, Lockheed Martin senior manager and member of the HFUW board of directors. "Our active citizenship enriches our own lives as well as those we help. Every day the Coalition for the Homeless shelters more than 800 men, women and children in Orlando. Our volunteers are passionate about being part of the solutions that lead the homeless back to independence."

Lockheed Martin volunteers will complete nearly three dozen projects, ranging from fresh paint in the men's overnight shelter and dozens of interim dormitory apartments to landscaping, repairing recreational facilities and entertaining children residing at the Coalition with crafts and clowns. Employees have also donated books, movies and music for the residents' education and entertainment.

"The Coalition for the Homeless is honored to have hundreds of Lockheed Martin employees return to our main campus for the second year in a row to tackle dozens of maintenance and home improvement projects at our main campus," said Byron Brooks, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Coalition. "Lockheed Martin is truly a shining example of good corporate citizenship -- extending a helping hand to those in need. Their support allows us to stretch our limited budget and resources to serve even more men, women, children and families who are in crisis need a helping hand."

Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin employs about 130,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services.
