More than 1,100 Lockheed Martin employees will receive President George W. Bush's prestigious Volunteer Service Award during National Volunteer Week (April 18-24). The award recipients are among thousands of Lockheed Martin employees nationwide who collectively logged more than 420,000 volunteer hours in 2003.

Also during National Volunteer Week, the American Red Cross and Lockheed Martin will honor nine Lockheed Martin employees who coordinated blood-donor drives at their companies in the greater Washington, D.C., region. This recognition follows Lockheed Martin's receipt of the American Red Cross National Award for its efforts to support the nation's blood supply and raise awareness about the need for blood donations.

Lockheed Martin volunteers are involved with a wide variety of community- service projects -- from blood-donor drives, to mentoring and tutoring programs in schools, to projects that support military organizations.

"This Corporation has a tradition of volunteerism and community service. During National Volunteer Week, Coffman will present the President's Volunteer Service Awards to Lockheed Martin corporate employees who work in Bethesda, Md. Lockheed Martin sites nationwide will present the awards to their eligible employees.

Employees were eligible for the award if they logged more than 100 volunteer hours on the Corporation's volunteer Web site in 2003. The President's Volunteer Service Award is issued by the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, an organization created by the president to help foster a culture of service, citizenship and a sense of responsibility by encouraging outstanding volunteer service and civic participation.

Lockheed Martin is honoring all employee volunteers during National Volunteer Week. All employees who recorded 2003 hours on the Corporation's volunteer Web site will receive a Certificate of Appreciation for their work in the community.
