Lockheed Martin Adds Raytheon to Team for UCAR Unmanned Aircraft Development Program

The Lockheed Martin Unmanned Combat Armed Rotorcraft (UCAR) development team is strengthening its technical diversity and sensor systems capabilities by adding Raytheon Company .

Raytheon, based in Waltham, MA, will play a significant role in the development and deployment of sensors and related technologies for the UCAR system. The goal of UCAR, a program conducted with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), is to demonstrate the technical feasibility, military utility and operational value of a system of unmanned rotorcraft capable of autonomous collaboration with manned and unmanned air and ground systems. The UCAR system is in development for the U.S. Army.

The UCAR system can operate as a part of a heterogeneous unmanned system team controlled from the ground or as a collaborative element of a manned- unmanned (MUM) aviation team. The effectiveness of a pack of autonomous rotorcraft vehicles demands mastery of advanced technology challenges and expertise of a uniquely capable development team.
