Lockheed Martin's 75th Aegis Weapon System was successfully tested during extensive sea trials on the soon-to-be-commissioned U.S. Navy destroyer Momsen (DDG 92).

During the trials, Navy and Lockheed Martin engineers assessed the performance of the Aegis Weapon System, including its newest radar, SPY-1D(V), in a live, at-sea environment. The tests included two successful Standard Missile-2 firings and gun exercises.

"The recent successful sea trials of the Aegis destroyer Momsen validate the superior performance of the surface fleet's premier integrated combat system," said Rear Adm. Tom Bush, Program Executive Office, Integrated Warfare Systems.

Representing the seventh generation of the Aegis Weapon System, the Momsen's system offers enhanced capabilities in littoral operations and remote mine reconnaissance. Momsen is the third Arleigh Burke-class destroyer with this newest version of the Aegis Weapon System to be tested at sea. With its two successful missile firings, this latest generation of Aegis now has a total of six successful missile engagements in six attempts recorded during sea trials.

"The success of these sea trials further confirms the unsurpassed capability of the Aegis Weapon System," said Orlando Carvalho, vice president of Lockheed Martin's Maritime Systems & Sensors Surface Systems line of business. "Aegis continues to transform to meet all threats, and provides Sailors a weapons system with a reputation for working all the time, every time."

Another integral part of this upgraded system is the ship's AN/SQQ-89 Undersea Warfare System, which also incorporates Lockheed Martin's Remote Minehunting System (RMS). Entering the fleet later this year, RMS will provide the first organic - and over-the-horizon - network-capable solution for mine detection and avoidance in littoral regions.

Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin employs about 130,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services.
