EAGAN, Minn.

Lockheed Martin's facility in Eagan has achieved a Maturity Level 3 rating against the Standard Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI(R)) for systems and software engineering. The CMMI(R) is considered the newest standard for benchmarking industry's best management and engineering practices.

"This achievement demonstrates to our customers our ongoing commitment to quality and continuous improvement," said Stephen Schultz, Tactical Systems vice president of Engineering. "We are committed to providing our customers with world class products using proven processes that ensure reliable program execution."

The appraisal leading to the Level 3 rating included a review of organizational processes and their implementation by projects at Lockheed Martin's Maritime Systems & Sensors Tactical Systems line of business in Eagan using the Standard CMMI(R) Appraisal Method for Process Improvement.

The CMMI(R) credential demonstrates that the company coordinates its systems, software and equipment engineering work and drives quality processes throughout the organization. It is used as a benchmark for determining the efficiency of an organization's processes and was developed by integrating practices from disciplines including software and systems engineering, integrated product development, and supplier sourcing.

CMMI(R) was released by the Software Engineering Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. It was developed by a coalition of industry, government and SEI to assess objectively the full range of an organization's engineering capabilities.

This effort is part of a Lockheed Martin corporate-wide initiative to further improve process capabilities and performance.

Headquartered in Bethesda, MD, Lockheed Martin employs about 125,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology systems, products and services.
