OSHA Recognizes Lockheed Martin for Stellar Safety Practices

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recently recognized Lockheed Martin Space Operations' Science, Engineering, Analysis and Test (SEAT) Operation with its "Star Among Stars" and Safety and Health Excellence awards for outstanding safety performance. Lockheed Martin received the awards at OSHA's Regional Voluntary Protection Participants' Association Conference in Fort Worth.

OSHA awarded the SEAT Operation two "Star Among Stars" awards for the excellent safety record of its onsite and offsite employees. To achieve this level of recognition, an organization's injury rate must be at least 50 percent lower than the national average.

In addition, SEAT was awarded the Safety and Health Excellence Award, Category III, recognizing its management commitment and employee involvement in safety and the innovations in its safety program. Innovations cited included managers' Environment, Safety and Health training and ergonomics programs. The SEAT Operation was also lauded for its safety and health stewardship, for best practices in ergonomics and for its worker's compensation case management. Category III awards recognize large organizations with 500 or more employees.

"It takes a strong grass roots effort by all employees to find ways to work more safely. We work hard to encourage our employees to assume responsibility and take a leadership role in all aspects of safety and health."
