The Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia will present Lockheed Martin employee Alberta McCulla with its Business On Call Volunteer of the Year award May 2 during the council's annual awards luncheon at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The luncheon will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the convention center's Grand Ballroom.

Each year, the council honors individuals, organizations and companies that provide time, creativity and financial support to promote the arts. The Business On Call award recognizes one active volunteer who has provided significant assistance to arts organizations through the council's Business On Call program. Through the program, business employees provide behind-the- scenes assistance to arts groups. Volunteers provide clerical support, serve as tour guides and ushers, paint sets, and help as production assistants, among other things.

"Giving back to our communities has always been one of our core values at Lockheed Martin," said Stan Sloane, president, Management & Data Systems (M&DS). "Alberta has embraced these values and embodied Lockheed Martin's spirit by donating more than 500 hours of her time to a variety of projects. We're proud of her and her accomplishments, and we congratulate her on the award."

McCulla, who works for M&DS, has been a longtime volunteer for Business on Call. Aside from supporting the program directly, she solicits and coordinates volunteer support for the program from the Lockheed Martin Network of Volunteer Associates (NOVA). She has championed NOVA's Business On Call team for five years, raising the visibility of this worthwhile program. And as a result of her efforts, 45 employees will volunteer approximately 400 hours to the Arts this year.

McCulla's own efforts have included staffing the gift shop at Elfreth's Alley, running an elevator for party-goers at the Philadelphia Free Library and serving behind the scenes of the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's annual Philadelphia Flower Show.

In addition to supporting Business On Call, she also donates time to the Friend's Hospital mental health facility in Philadelphia and recently became a certified translator of American Sign Language to assist hearing-impaired employees at M&DS.

From mentoring and tutoring disadvantaged youth in science and math to renovating dilapidated housing, NOVA volunteers show an unwavering commitment to people, families and communities.
